Governor Georgy Poltavchenko Opens NEVA 2015 with high praise for St Petersburg’s Shipbuilding Industry Prowess

Today in Congress-exhibition centre “Expoforum” started the beginning of the 13th international exhibition on civil shipbuilding, shipping,ports and exploration of ocean and offshore “NEVA-2015”.


The opening ceremony was attended by St. Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko, Deputy transport Minister Viktor Olersky, Deputy Director of the Administrative Department of the Government of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the Maritime Collegium under the Government of the Russian Federation Alexander Balyberdin, Representative of International Maritime organization of the United Nations( IMO) Mikhail Gappoev, President of the Russian chamber of shipping, the leaders of St. Petersburg, Russian and foreign scientific and industrial organizations and shipyards.

Georgy Poltavchenko noted that the conference and exhibition NEVA-2015 is very popular among professionals in the field of shipbuilding, study of the oceans and the Arctic. This year the forum is attended by over 500 companies from 34 countries. “This suggests that the nautical theme is of great interest for the world economy, for business,” the Governor said. He also stressed that in St. Petersburg shipbuilding is a major local industries. In the Northern capital of Russia- St.Petersburg-is concentrated about 80% of scientific-technical and design capacity of the domestic shipbuilding industry and about 30% of total production in the industry of Russia. More than 40 St. Petersburg shipbuilding enterprises employ 50 thousand Petersburgers. With the participation of St. Petersburg enterprises and organizations of the construction of a modern nuclear icebreaker fleet, created a unique technology and equipment for development of ocean and shelf. As the Governor reported, last year in the shipyards of the city was launched on 11 ships. This year – has 7 ships, and the end of the year scheduled to be launched 9. “This is a very good result. Each tab of the ship, each launching we consider as General city win, big city holiday,” said Georgy Poltavchenko. He emphasized that the forum gives participants the opportunity not only to find new partners, but also to learn about new developments and high technologies that can be embedded in civil shipbuilding, exploration and development of the Arctic.

The participants of the opening ceremony have got a stand tour of exposition, including the stands of JSC “United shipbuilding Corporation”, Group “TRANSAS”, FSUE “Krylov state scientific center” , Russian Maritime register of shipping”, the Sovcomflot-SCF group , “Marine Technics” Company, Nevsky shipbuilding-Shiprepair shipyard,Pella Shipyard and other businesses.
