Center for Strategic Assessments and Forecasts presents the report “The observer countries of the Arctic Council: Position & Incentives”

In 2014, the Russian Center for Strategic Studies and Forecasts with the support of The Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund has carried out research as presented in the analytical report “The observer countries of the Arctic Council: the position and incentives” to be presented at the meeting of the International Expert Council on Cooperation in the Arctic which will be held 03 October 2014 during the international Ports and Shipping Conference and Exhibition TRANSTEC 2014 in St. Petersburg.

Research guidelines were focused on the assessment of the geopolitical situation that has taken shape during the last decade of the XXI century. In particular,experts of the Center judge from the fact that during the last decade,global climate change and the exhaustion of easily accessible hydrocarbon crude have made the issue of developing deposits in harsh climate conditions one of the most pressing issues. On the other hand, at the beginning of the XXI century, shifts in the geopolitical balance of the world,the redistribution of financial, commodity and other flows between East and West have made revision of the strategic directions of traffic arteries one of the most important questions.
