Despite difficult times both internationally and in the Russian economy, transshipment cargo volume within domestic ports is growing – ASOP Executive Director addresses TRANSTEC 2016 Plenary attendees.

As reported by regnum.ru news:

The total turnover of the seaports of the Russian Federation for the period from 1993 to 2015 increased by more than 6 times, and last year reached the mark of 680 million tons. This was stated by Executive Director of the Association of Commercial Sea Ports, Mr Serik Zhusupov, during the Fifth International Conference on Development of Ports and Shipping TRANSTEC 2016 today, 4 October, the correspondent of IA REGNUM informs .

Transshipment in Russian harbours has shown steady growth over a long period, despite the impact of the crisis, sanctions and other combined changes, said Mr Zhusupov.  According to the ASOP forecast, the turnover of the Russian port complex at the end of 2016 will amount to 710 million tons. Mr Zhusupov noted that the port industry is valued as

“…probably one of the best among all sectors of the Russian economy.” “The annual shipment growth is associated with the introduction of new specialised port facilities and a reduction in the share of neighbouring countries in the total volume of foreign trade cargo handling.”
